Senior Helpers
Today in America, we are witnessing a population that is aging like we have never seen. Due to our medical breakthroughs and lifestyle changes, people are living longer than ever before.
This means it’s very common to have parents in their late 80s or 90s who are not quite as active and are still at home. While at home, many of them need help and other family members might not be able to provide for reasons such as their job or possibly even not living close enough.
Here in southeast Michigan, there is a national organization called Senior Helpers that is owned and operated by Barbara Roden. For the last several years, Barbara and her caring team of support staff has been offering their in-home services to the local residents.
Besides some of the basic needs like helping with meal preparation, running errands or just companionship, Senior Helpers also specializes in assisting families who have a loved one who may be suffering with a form of dementia. Barb and her team have taken a great deal of time to learn the methods of Teepa Snow, the Nation’s most important teacher, who has really created a new language that is so important to embrace when trying to help a loved one who is on the journey of dementia.
Barbara’s interview also helped us understand just how complicated the aging issue is for our society as a whole. We are thrilled and fortunate to have Senior Helpers be a part of our team, to help bring this film “Those on the Front Lines of Alzheimer’s & Dementia” to our audience.
