He is a clinical psychologist and obtained his Ph.D. at Purdue University in 1986, going on to complete postdoctoral training in geriatric neuropsychology from the University of Virginia.

He has authored or co-authored over 150 peer review journal articles. His particular areas of research include mental health in long-term care, geriatric depression, geriatric psychology, medical rehabilitation and the early detection and management of Alzheimer's disease. Emerging research includes financial decision-making, Perceived Cognitive Impairment, victims of fraud and kinship care.

We had a conversation with Dr. Lichtenburg about our aging senior population and their vulnerability to professional scammers who prey on the trusting elders - some of them suffering from a dementia-related illness.

Speaking on this topic with Dr. Lichtenberg was both disturbing as well as enlightening. We are confident that this part of our film will be a must-see for anyone with an aging parent.
