Gina and Michael Spehn have been founders and leaders of the New Day Foundation, founded in 2007, for a decade now. The foundation helps take off a load of anxiety and stress on cancer patients and their families by searching and finding ways to pay for the day to day necessities and expenses such as home mortgages, heating, water bills and many more because of the new burden of financial toxicity patients and their families now have to endure to help save their loved one. Gina sat down with us to discuss the potent and rising issues of financial toxicity in today’s cancer patients with the incredibly expensive pharmaceutical costs and the various experimental treatments trying to find a cure. She shared her personal journey with cancer within her family, which both her and her husband, Michael, have experienced, and now they have to be an advocate for their 18 year old son, Sam, as he currently battles through his own fight of brain cancer, known as glioblastoma. The New Day Foundation gives cancer patients the support that is unmatched to help maneuver through today’s rising troubles of financial toxicity.
