Today at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit we met with Dr. David Kwon, a Surgical Oncologist who specializes in pancreatic cancer, to discuss the rare disease and the troubling effects the surgery, treatments, and medical costs a person endures during their cancer journey. He highlighted the history of the now well-known treatment, the Whipple Surgery, which has evolved over the decades and has now become the most effective and successful surgery for certain pancreatic cancers. One topic Dr. Kwon felt particularly strongly about was financial toxicity, and addressed how restrictive medical costs can be on patients when it comes to choosing a cancer treatment. Dr. Kwon also shared with us his view on the risks and dangers on various environmental toxins we have created that could potentially be one of the leading causes of certain cancers in the future with further research.
We are excited to have Dr. Kwon as one of our medical oncologist to speak on behalf of pancreatic cancer and his patients in our upcoming documentary film, Those On The Front Lines Of Cancer, coming Fall of 2019.
