How many people understand the critical importance of a pathologist?

Yesterday at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, we sat down to speak with Beaumont Health pathologist, Ming Xie, M.D., to understand his role and the work he and his team do regarding cancer treatment. In short, without the research and diagnosis a pathologist provides, the patient would not have a chance at survival. Dr. Xie has been with Beaumont Hospital for about 12 years, where he and his team, including Jennifer Warrow, pathology assistant, and Nancy Sweet, histotechnologist, showed us the steps of examining a breast cancer tissue specimen from when they splice the specimen to explaining the visuals they see under the microscope. After looking through the microscope they identify the cancer cells, establish the diagnosis and help determine the most efficient and effective treatment for the cancer patient.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Xie, Jennifer Warrow, and Nancy Sweet featured in our film “Those on the Front Lines of Cancer”.
