To say that Carolyn could teach us all about attitude is an understatement. This dynamic Ferndale resident and medical ER technician at Beaumont Hospital of Troy is allowing us to step into her very complicated, frightening world of breast cancer. It all started with what she thought was a small lump, originally thought to be breast fibroids; that turned out to be full-on breast cancer. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy, which took Carolyn on a journey of nausea as well as induced menopause, she is now preparing for a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction surgery using tissue expanders. We will follow her through this surgery for our documentary.
Additionally, we will follow Carolyn for the next several months along with her boyfriend, Jacob, as they navigate through their journey with cancer. When I asked Carolyn if she ever wonders “why me?” she said “why not me?” Her ‘kick cancer’s ass’ attitude benefits not only her, but those who love and support her as well. “I don’t regret that I have cancer. I have met so many wonderful people that I would never have met. I have also gained a new perspective on the value of time with loved ones,” Carolyn said.
We are honored and humbled to have Carolyn in our film. We are sure she will offer a perspective rarely seen or understood unless you are one of those souls to have walked in the same shoes that she is today.
