We had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Brittany Naylor, a 22-year-old woman from Pontiac, Michigan and a patient at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. We met Brittany through one of Michigan’s most amazing organizations – Wish Upon A Teen.
Brittany, over the course of the next 12 months of our production, will allow us to step into her life as she battles stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Before Brittany’s diagnosis, she was starting her studies to become a nurse. Sadly, now, her days are filled with hospital visits, intense rounds of chemo and a great deal of uncertainty.
Beginning with Brittany, an important feature of our film will be that of the many stories we will tell of those who are living a personal cancer journey. We will also feature organizations that are there as support groups and centers that have become a beacon of hope for families; such as Wish Upon A Teen, Gilda’s Club, The Rainbow Connection, The Sky Foundation, and the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance . From producing a wide range of documentaries, I’ve learned over the years that when we featured cancer patients, the tremendous uncertainty can thrust someone into a very lonely world.
Our intention is to give a narrative voice to those who are in the trenches working on cancer research, treatments, and cures. I plan on creating a documentary and premiere celebration that will celebrate the survivors and pay homage to Those on the Front Lines of Cancer.
